LATEST: PENELOPE CRUZ and Adrien Brody have dodged a backlash from animal rights activists after insisting no creatures will be harmed in their new bullfighting film.

People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) instructed supporters to disrupt filming on the set of MANOLETE after producers failed to communicate whether any bulls would be hurt or killed during production.

But the movie-makers have broken their silence, assuring PETA they will be using computer wizardry to create the gory effects.

A spokesman for Manolete says, "There will be no killing, torture or mistreatment of bulls or any animals during the shooting of the film.

"Computer-generated images and physical effects will be used."
