Former BAYWATCH actress Pamela Anderson insists she was joking when she recently lashed out at Jessica Simpson - calling her a "bitch and a whore" for wearing a t-shirt promoting meat.

Anderson, a vegetarian and prominent animal activist, was disgusted to see the pop star recently sporting a red shirt sporting the logo "Real Girls Eat Meat".

And now the actress has unleashed her fury on Simpson with a string of insults.

Anderson told an Australian radio show, "I think she is a bitch and whore.

"Actually, I don't know if she was talking about food or men."

But Anderson's representative has come to her defence, insisting the star's comments were meant in jest.

The spokesperson tells New York Daily News, "She was joking."
